Everyone loves Instagram, including me. We forge bonds with people we’ve never met, watch their children grow up and watch them start new businesses and new jobs. Instagram also gives us a way to find new products simply based on what we’ve previously liked. Companies are getting smarter and more creative when it comes to advertising in a way that catches the attention of their audience. Sometimes when scrolling through Instagram, ads pop up but they are so cleverly done that they fit in seamlessly with my timeline. Ads that pop up are normally for pages I’ve viewed or products I’ve viewed on the internet.
I follow a mix of over 1000 close friends and family, celebrities and entrepreneurs. Most people on my feed are trying to sell me stuff. Whether it be a tea to help me lose weight, a waist cincher or designer shoes and clothes. Whatever you can think of I guarantee someone is trying to sell it to me through the “Gram” as it’s known. Some of the appeal of Instagram marketing is the use of Instagram influencers. Most of the so-called influencers I follow are of a fitness nature. I frequently interact with these types of posts, so I see them often because of Instagram’s algorithms. It seems like every other post is advertising something either they themselves are selling or one of their partners or sponsors are selling.
One of my favorite businesses that I follow uses some of the most creative marketing techniques. It is a hair product company created by a woman from New Orleans. She makes skits and employs the use of celebrities in these skits to push her products. She creates campaigns around pop culture events and based on various celebrities. She’s created a parody for Judge Judy (her name is Judy) as well as Judy Wonka. Her content is always colorful and eye catching. She employs the use of discount days and codes to entice customers to visit her website. I’ve purchased multiple items from her simply because of her advertising.
Social Media frequently gets a bad rap. But if you have something you need to market, it is an invaluable tool to help get your product in front of thousands or even millions of people. What I like about marketing on Instagram is that you don’t have to be a major company with a ton of money to advertise your product or services.
